The White Elephant Archive, A visual Lecture

Date Event:
Saturday, 10 November, 2012
2:00am

“Owning a white elephant was considered a blessing and a curse at the same time: a blessing because it was a sacred animal and a curse because it was therefore protected from labor. The White Elephant Archive is a work in progress started by my late grand-mother. It consists of biographic documents, correspondences, poems, testimonies, narrations, photos, audio and film recordings linked to my family’s history, mostly relating to the “Shoah” and/or to communism in Austria. During the past three months I have been working with the archive in Israel. The politics of this location affected my work simultaneously in a burdensome and in a beneficial way. I will try to explain”.

This event is the first presentation of the project and the conclusion of Eduard Freidmann’s stay at artport residency 3 months program.
