Sonya Schönberger’s artistic work is mainly a search for traces in German history. Based on biographical experiences of witnesses of a certain time and re-discovered fragments that tell stories from past times and worlds, different works in various medias develop. She is deeply interested in breaks, which occur through a change from one political or social system to another caused by war and what this means for the individual that has to cope with them. She has met with numerous people, who experienced World War II in Germany and had conversations with them. Through this 'archive of memories', she examines the consequences of the traumas of a whole nation onto the following generations.
